Earth's Geomagnetism

This simulation shows the Earth's magnetic field as a dipole, generated by electric currents in the liquid outer core.
The field protects us from harmful solar wind and cosmic radiation, creating the magnetosphere.
The magnetic axis is tilted about 11.5° from the rotation axis (True North).

Van Allen Belts (Trapped Particles)

Did you know? The Earth's magnetic field reverses every few hundred thousand years.
The Van Allen belts trap charged particles, protecting life on Earth.
