b. Connect thistle funnel and delivery tube with
corks.
c. Close the cork making airtight.
d. Connect delivery tube to beehive shelf in
water trough.
e. Invert water-filled gas jar on beehive shelf.
f. Pour dilute sulphuric acid through thistle
funnel slowly.
⚠️ Precautions
1. Wash all apparatus well.
2. Use impure zinc.
3. Ensure airtight connections.
4. Use dilute acid, not concentrated.
5. Dip thistle funnel tip, but not delivery tube
tip.
6. Fill gas jar completely with water.
What Happens:
Hydrogen gas evolves immediately when zinc and acid contact. Gas
collects in jar by downward displacement of water since hydrogen
is lighter than water.
