A scale drawing is a representation of an actual object or place where all dimensions are reduced or enlarged by the same ratio. The scale tells us the relationship between the drawing size and the actual size.

Example: Scale 1 cm = 500 m

A map is prepared using scale 1 cm = 500 m. If the distance between two places is 9 cm in map, what is the real distance between them?

Solution:

Here, scale 1 cm = 500 m real distance.

9 cm × 500 = 4500 m

Answer: 4500 m or 4.5 km
