Eclipse

An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Earth, and Moon lie in a straight line. The Moon or Earth blocks sunlight, creating a shadow. This can partially or completely block the Sun or Moon from view.

Lunar Eclipse

Occurs when Earth is between the Sun and the Moon.

  • Total Lunar Eclipse: Moon completely covered by Earth’s shadow
  • Partial Lunar Eclipse: Moon partially covered

Happens only on Full Moon.

Solar Eclipse

Occurs when Moon is between the Sun and the Earth.

  • Total Solar Eclipse: Sun completely blocked
  • Partial Solar Eclipse: Sun partially blocked

Happens only on New Moon. Never look directly at the Sun!
