Sodium Bicarbonate (NaHCO₃)

Makes bread, cakes and biscuits soft and fluffy. When heated it releases CO₂ gas — tiny bubbles that puff up the dough!

Gives fruits their sour taste. It is a natural chemical substance that is safe to eat and used as a flavouring in drinks and sweets.

NaCl + Potassium Iodate

Salt with iodine added to prevent goitre and mental problems. Children especially need iodine to grow smart and healthy.

Used to preserve pickles, fish and meat so they don't spoil. It is an acid that stops harmful bacteria from growing in food.
