Soil Formation
🌍 Process of Soil Formation
Weathering:
Big rocks slowly break into small pieces due to heat, cold, rain and wind.
Erosion:
Wind and flowing water carry these small soil particles from one place to another.
Deposition:
When water or wind slows down, soil particles settle down and form new layers.
Humus Formation:
Dead plants and animals decompose and mix with soil to form humus.
Soil Layers:
Over many years, different layers of soil are formed called soil profile.
Time:
Soil formation is a very slow process and takes hundreds of years.
Importance:
Soil supports plant growth and provides nutrients to plants.
