- Weathering: Big rocks slowly break into small pieces due to heat, cold, rain and wind.
- Erosion: Wind and flowing water carry these small soil particles from one place to another.
- Deposition: When water or wind slows down, soil particles settle down and form new layers.
- Humus Formation: Dead plants and animals decompose and mix with soil to form humus.
- Soil Layers: Over many years, different layers of soil are formed called soil profile.
- Time: Soil formation is a very slow process and takes hundreds of years.
- Importance: Soil supports plant growth and provides nutrients to plants.
