When a coin is tossed and a die is rolled at the same time, the coin can land on either head (H) or tail (T), and the die can show any number from 1 to 6. Whatever number turns up on the die has no effect at all on whether the coin shows heads or tails — and the coin's result has no effect on the die either. Because neither outcome influences the other, this is called an independent event.
