Understanding Upthrust

Definition: The upward force exerted by a fluid on an object immersed in it is called Upthrust.

Factors Affecting Upthrust:

  • Volume of the object immersed.
  • Density of the liquid: Upthrust is directly proportional to liquid density.

Observation: An iron ball sinks in water but floats on mercury because mercury is much denser, providing greater upthrust.

🖱️ COMMAND: Drag the Balance to submerge the stone.
